Urbanears Plattan Headphones

Urbanears is a Swedish company that is known for their array of color options and modern simplistic design. With over 15 different color choices, there is a headphone for every person out there. With an on-ear design, the Plattan are Urbanears most popular headphones.

The design of the Plattan is simple and sleek. It allows the user to express themselves through a color choice. The headphones are equipped with a built in microphone and a remote in the cord. They feature a durable fabric cord that limits tangles. Urbanears also gave the Plattan a unique feature, called the Zound Plug, which allows for another person to plug their headphones into the Platten and share your music. I have yet to see this feature on any other headphone and think it separates the Plattan from other competition. The casual listener of hip-hop, techno, and so forth will be satisfied with the overall sound quality. With such a low price tag, one should not expect the best sound quality. Like with most on–ear headphones, comfort seems to be the main drawback, and the Plattan's are no exception. This is due to the sleek design and minimal ear padding. Besides this design flaw, the UrbanEar Plattan Headphones are a great options for those looking for a low cost and good sounding headphones in a wide array of color choices.

Price: $60

Pros
  • Large Selection of Color
  • Zound Plug
  • Foldable
  • Durable and Cheap

Cons
  • Uncomfortable
  • Average Sound Quality

JVC Xtreme Xplosives Around-Ear Headphones

With it's Xtreme Xplosive line of headphones, JVC is trying to target the young demographic with affordable, stylish, and bass-thumping headphones. These headphones are extremely durable because they are reinforced with tough plastic and rubber. The design of the JVC Xplosives is rugged, yet stylish. Underneath the headband, there is a blue camouflage pattern that I really love. I also really like the red cord that it comes with.

The bass on these headphones is on-par with the Beats. If you love bass and primarily listen to hip-hop, techno, or house, then these are a great option. Since the target demographic of these headphones listens to this type of music anyways, it's not such a big problem that other genres of music don't sound as good. The one problem that i have with these headphones is that they leak sound. If your in a public place, then your not going to want to have the volume at a high level (unless you want everyone to hear what your listening to). With the extremely low price, high durability and great bass, the JVC Xtreme Xplosive Around-Ear Headphones are a great option.

Quincy Jones AKG Q460 On-Ear Headphones

The third and final model of the Quincy Jones Signature line is the AKG Q460. It is an on-ear headphone that has the same signature lime accents as the rest of the line. The AKG Quincy Jones headphones are all extremely well-made and the Q460's are no exception. Sound quality is way above average and overpasses some of the best on-ear headphones like the Bose ones, and the Beats Solos.

The lime green cord is detachable and the headphones fold flat. One problem with most on-ear headphones is comfort. AKG has done a nice job with making sure comfort is incorporated into the design. The headphones are lightweight, nicely padded, and don't cause ear sweats. The construction is well-built but they aren't to most sturdy headphones by any means. While the AKG Q460's are not cheap, they sound great and are well-designed, which make them a great option. They are available in 3 colors: White, Black & Lime Green.

Aerial7 DJ Jam Tank Headphones

Aerial 7 has teamed with DJ Jam to create his signature headphone using the Tank Platinum model. For those of you who don't know, DJ Jam is the official DJ for Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and other prominent artists. It's a little ironic that the official DJ of the man with one of the most popular headphone companies of all time doesn't use Beats. Snoop Dogg also has his own signature headphone with SkullCandy. Like i said, the DJ Jam signature headphone is just another design to the Aerial7 Tank Premium model.

The Aerial7 Tank headphones target the same market as SkullCandy, so its hard not to compare. This "Young, Wild, and Free" crowd demands loud music, color options, and low prices. While the Aerial7 Tank headphones hit these three issues, they seemed to forget the rest. The plastic construction feels cheap. Despite the relatively large ear cups, they aren't very comfortable. Lastly, music is loud but not clear or precise. The Aerial7 Tank Headphones come in 10 color combinations.

Sony PiiQ Marqii Premium Headphones

I have been impressed with the Sony PiiQ Headphones that I have previously reviewed, so I was especially excited to check out their top of the line headphones. All PiiQ headphones feature an eye-popping design, and the Marqii's are no exception. I like most of the design features like the square ear-cups, flat cord and the speaker-like fabric that lines the outer portion of the ear-cups. The biggest problem I have with these headphones is with the color combinations, or lack there of. Sony decided to only come out with one color for there premium headphones. Every other headphones in the PiiQ line, besides the Marqii's, comes in a number of colors. The vibrant pink color is not for everyone and I wish Sony would come out with these headphones in red, blue or another more universal color.

The Sony PiiQ Premium Headphones are extremely light at only 9 oz. There is a good amount of leather padding on the earcups to make comfort a non-issue.  Bass is plenty enough to satisfy most people. The amount of bass in the Marqii's is not at the level of Beats by Dre headphones, but not very far behind.  For the price, sound quality is above average. Most songs sound accurate enough for most listeners. If you can get over the pink accent, the Sony Marqii Premium Headphones are a great option due to their unique young design, comfort, bass, and reasonable price tag.

Nixon Ecophones

Joseph Carney designed these Nixon Ecophones to create a pair of superior quality eco conscious headphones. Bamboo is used for the outer portion of the ear cups and a recycled rubber would be used for the headband. While these are not for sale, I thought I would show you how stylish an environmental friendly headphone could be.

Monster Studio Beats By Dr. Dre

Today I will review the headphone that started it all. The one that all other headphone's try to emulate. The incredible success of the Studio Beats Headphones has been the catalyst for all CelebHeadphones. Are they really that good? I will give my take on one of the hottest selling electronics of the past year.

There is no doubt that these headphones are extremely sleek and stylish. The glossy finish gives them an ultra-lux look that had previously never been seen with any headphone. There is a good amount of cushion on the ear cups for comfort. One problem that because the Studio Beats provide a great deal of bass, it caused by ears to sweat regularly. Like I said, the Studio Beats provide thumping bass that won't leave you wanting more. The bass requires the use of 2 AAA batteries, and without them, no sound will play. Sound quality is decent with the Studio Beats with the only issue that some songs sound better than others.

One of my biggest problems with the Studio Beats is that it seems like every athlete or person under 25 has a pair. Last year they were unique and fashionable but now they are mainstream and basic. Since everyone has one, the only way to separate your Studio Beats from the rest is to personalize the colors through ColorWare or another similar site. The problem with this is that the cost of personalizing them is almost as much as the actual Beats! Although there are better options out there, the Dr. Dre Studio Beats will continue to be extremely popular due to their eye-catching design and mass appeal. They are available in 3 colors: Black, Red & White.
